143. How to Build a Business You Love Without the Hustle with Jadah Sellner

Hey you wild woman!

I used to live my life in a state of overwhelm. I was busy doing the stuff that felt productive but wasn't moving the needle. It was an avoidance mechanism because I was too afraid to succeed. Success meant more hours at the office, time away from my family, and putting my health on the back burner. I thought I could coast if I put in more hours and could stop when things started to get good. Coasting was safe and predictable, but I never progressed as a result.

That eventually led me to burnout. I never learned the suitable systems to manage my business or how to delegate effectively. Ultimately, we established OKRs, implemented great project management systems, and adopted decent recruiting techniques, but the damage was already done. The hustle burned me out, and I eventually threw in the towel.

To say I *may* have regrets, well, sure. I built a great business, just a little ass-backward. But if I had to do it again, I would first implement what this week's guest, Jadah Sellner, highlights in this episode and her book SHE BUILDS: The Anti-Hustle Guide to Grow Your Business and Nourish Your Life.

First thing I am doing starting today: Implementing support mechanisms!

"When we operate at this high level of ambition, creativity, output, and double duty of business and home life, we need a lot of support mechanisms in place to hold us as we grow." - Jadah Sellner

In this episode, you will learn about:

  • The need for a support squad

  • How to keep going despite the opposition

  • How to stop doing things to impress others

  • Why toughness is self-defined

  • Understanding what is enough for you

  • Calculating your enough number

  • How the constant chase for more isn't fulfilling

  • How to avoid the fear cycle that leads to exhaustion

What it means to be a wild woman:

Being connected to your capacity for pleasure and in that place of power, asking yourself, "how do I turn myself on?"
(Removing the stigma that this is someone else's responsibility.) - Jadah Sellner
